Last updated: October 14, 2026

This is an English translation of the Japanese original. If there is any difference between the two, the Japanese version prevails.

Basic Information

Article 1 (Application)

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") set out the conditions for using Storybook Cabin (えほんのこや; the "App"). Please agree to the Terms before using the App. By downloading or using the App, you are deemed to have agreed to the Terms.

Article 2 (Accounts)

  1. Users can use the App by signing in with email, Apple ID, Google account, or anonymous sign-in.
  2. If you use anonymous sign-in, you may not be able to restore your data after changing devices or deleting the App. If you plan to keep using the App, we recommend linking an account.
  3. The App is intended for use by adults, such as parents and family members. Minors who use the App themselves, including purchasing paid services, should do so with the consent of a parent or guardian.

Article 3 (Paid Service: Yomu Plus)

  1. The App offers the following auto-renewing subscription, "Yomu Plus" (よむよむプラン; the "Subscription").

    PlanPeriodPrice (tax included)
    Yomu Plus (monthly)1 month¥400
    Yomu Plus (yearly)1 year¥4,000

Prices vary by country and region; the price shown in the App Store or Google Play applies.

  2. With the Subscription, you can use the OCR feature (reading receipts and covers), data export, and other paid features specified by the operator. The features provided may change in accordance with Article 8.
  3. The OCR feature has a monthly usage limit (currently 30 times in total). The limit is shown in the App, and we will notify you in the App if it changes.
  4. Fees are charged to your store account (App Store or Google Play) at purchase and at each renewal.
  5. The Subscription renews automatically unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The renewal fee is charged within 24 hours before the end of the period.
  6. You can turn off auto-renewal and cancel in the following ways. You cannot cancel within the App. Deleting the App does not cancel the Subscription.

    • iOS: the device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions
    • Android: Google Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions
  7. Even after cancellation, you can use paid features until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not give prorated refunds for cancellation in the middle of a period.
  8. Cancellations of purchases and refunds follow the policies and procedures set by Apple or Google, and the operator cannot handle them directly.
  9. The Subscription is tied to the store account used for purchase. It may not be possible to transfer a subscription between iOS and Android.
  10. If we change fees, we will notify you in the App or on this page a reasonable period before the change takes effect.

Article 4 (Paid Service: Scan Packs)

  1. The operator may offer one-time purchase items that add uses of specific features such as OCR ("Scan Packs"). Their contents and prices are shown on the purchase screen in the App.
  2. Scan Packs do not renew automatically.
  3. Scan Packs are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. Unused uses expire after the validity period.
  4. If you have both the monthly uses included in the Subscription and a Scan Pack, the uses included in the Subscription are used first.
  5. Except where required by law, we do not refund or exchange unused Scan Pack uses for cash. Cancellations of purchases and refunds are handled in the same way as in paragraph 8 of the previous Article.
  6. Scan Packs can be used only with the account that purchased them and cannot be transferred to other users. If you delete your account, unused uses expire.

Article 5 (Information Posted by Users)

  1. Rights to the comments, notes, bibliographic information, etc. registered by users ("Posted Information") belong to the users.
  2. The operator may use Posted Information to the extent necessary to provide and improve the App. This includes aggregating reading logs and comments in a form that cannot identify individuals and using them to show recommended picture books and introduce trends. This use for aggregation is turned on by default, and users can stop it at any time from the Settings screen in the App. When stopped, recommended picture books are no longer shown.
  3. The operator will not publish the text of comments written by users to other users or outside parties without the user's individual consent.
  4. Bibliographic information registered by users may, after review by the operator, be added to a shared database that other users can view. In that case, no information that can identify the user is published.
  5. Please do not post content that infringes the copyrights or other rights of third parties (such as copying synopses or text from books).
  6. The data export feature is provided so that users can save and view the records they have entered themselves.

Article 6 (Operator Content)

  1. Rights to the bibliographic database, synopses, tags, classifications, recommendation selections, images, and other content created or maintained by the operator and provided in the App ("Operator Content") belong to the operator or the rightful owners.
  2. Users may use Operator Content only for the purpose of viewing and using it through the App.
  3. Users must not do any of the following with Operator Content. This applies whether it was obtained from data output by the export feature, from what is shown on screen, or from communications.

    • Providing, redistributing, publishing or selling it to third parties
    • Posting it on or incorporating it into other services, applications or websites
    • Using it as a dataset for machine learning or other purposes
    • Using it to build, operate or develop a service that is the same as or similar to the App, whether for profit or not
    • Copying all or a substantial part of the database, or obtaining it comprehensively by automated means
  4. The restrictions in this Article do not apply to reading logs, comments, information about children, etc. entered by users themselves (Posted Information under the previous Article).

Article 7 (Prohibited Acts)

Users must not do any of the following.

Article 8 (Changes, Suspension and Termination of the Service)

  1. The operator may change the contents of the App, or suspend or end its provision.
  2. If we end the entire service or make important changes to paid features, we will notify you in the App with reasonable advance notice.
  3. We may temporarily suspend the service without prior notice due to system maintenance, failures, natural disasters, or other unavoidable reasons.

Article 9 (Disclaimer)

  1. The operator does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the App's contents or bibliographic information. Always check your library's information for its holdings and due dates.
  2. The operator is not liable for damages that users suffer from using the App, except in cases of intent or gross negligence on the part of the operator.
  3. Notwithstanding the previous paragraph, if the operator is liable for damages, the amount is limited to the total the user paid to the operator in the 12 months before the damage occurred. However, this does not apply if the user is a consumer under the Consumer Contract Act and this limitation is not permitted by that Act or other laws.
  4. To prepare for data loss, we recommend backing up important records with the export feature or other means.

Article 10 (Changes to the Terms)

  1. The operator may change the Terms when laws change, when the service changes, or when otherwise necessary.
  2. When we make changes, we will announce the revised contents and the effective date in advance in the App or on this page.
  3. For important changes that are disadvantageous to users, we will notify users in the App a reasonable period before the effective date (as a rule, at least 30 days before).
  4. If you use the App after the changes take effect, you are deemed to have agreed to the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you may stop using the App and delete your account at any time.

Article 11 (Special Provisions Regarding Apple)

This Article applies only to users of the iOS version of the App obtained from the App Store.

  1. The Terms are concluded between the user and the operator, not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). The operator alone is responsible for the App's contents, maintenance and support, and Apple has no responsibility for them.
  2. If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, the user may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price to the user. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever.
  3. The operator is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to conform to legal requirements, claims under consumer protection laws, and claims that the App infringes third-party intellectual property rights.
  4. The user represents that they are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  5. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of the Terms, and upon the user's acceptance of the Terms, Apple has the right to enforce the Terms against the user directly.

Article 12 (Special Provisions Regarding Google Play)

This Article applies only to users of the Android version of the App obtained from Google Play.

  1. The Terms are concluded between the user and the operator, not with Google LLC ("Google"). The operator alone is responsible for the App's contents, maintenance and support.
  2. Purchases through Google Play, management of subscriptions, and refunds are subject to the Google Play Terms of Service and Google's policies.
